HERLARIOUS BACK TO REALITY – 15th JULY

A year ago Funny Women held a series of Virtual Reality events to make sense of our lives while the world rallied against the pandemic. There is no escaping the fact that the impact COVID has had on society has changed our lives for ever. As lockdown eases we crave normality in order to continue working and running our businesses. Yet, we need space and time to make some sense of everything we’ve been through and prepare for what lies ahead.

This event is designed to give you a sense of perspective about the world we find ourselves in – what is reality now and what can we do about it. We will be discussing how we can ‘go with the flow’ and proceed calmly and creatively into the brave new world of work beyond the 21 st June, or whatever date our Government puts on it.

Our communal and individual wellbeing is paramount for personal and business survival so our online HERlarious events provide a social forum to help you express yourself, keep focused and plan ahead with a few essential endorphin and morale-boosting laughs along the way.

All the details are HERE and this event is offered on a ‘pay what you want’ PWYW basis.  All funds raised go towards running more outreach events to support our wider community.

Hosted by Funny Women founder, Lynne Parker, this session will feature three short micro-workshops, entertainment and an opportunity to network.

Find Your Focus

Working on screen can often be bewildering and intense. The virtual environment can be distracting and feeds our insecurities.  Actors develop techniques before they perform and Jenny will combine her physical and comedic skills to help you tune in and focus your mind and body.  She will show you some easy-to-do Yoga and meditation techniques to boost your mood and improve your concentration.

Jenny Bolt trained as an actress, director and qualified yoga teacher. She is also an award-winning stand-up comedian and a skilled workshop facilitato. Jenny coaches individuals in presentation skills, working regularly with Funny Women providing workshops and strategies for many of its corporate clients along with running yoga and meditation classes.

Less Martyr More Queen

Find the opportunity to say ‘no’ for real and discover your authentic voice. Your pesky pleaser is at it again wanting to please your partner, your kids, your boss, the shopkeeper and everyone in your workspace. Everyone loves a pleaser but it isn’t as unconditional as it may appear. It’s really a business deal so learn how to ditch the martyr and be the queen!

Dr Paula Hamilton uses her voice to advocate and campaign for women’s and workers’ rights both nationally and globally. She has held senior positions in the UK and global labour movement for over two decades, most recently at the International Transport Workers Federation. Paula runs her own women’s coaching and training organisation which specifically focuses on supporting women to step into leadership.

Overcoming Faceless Communications

If you haven’t started a Zoom call in the last year with the immortal words “You’re on mute!”, or “I can hear you but I can’t see you!”, or “Your screen’s frozen!” then have you even experienced working remotely or from home?! As things open up, some of us are going back into the office or workplace, or meeting with work colleagues or contacts face-to-face again. This session explores some of the lighter moments of working via Zoom, Teams or Meets, along with navigating the new remote working journey we’re all on and how virtual communications sit within it.

Emily O’Neill is a Virtual PA specialising in digital marketing and has run her own business for over three years. Working with creative business owners to amplify their digital offering, including creating content for and managing their social media, managing their digital comms and updating their websites, Emily has experienced every kind of virtual meeting possible, from the energetic to the endless, and the creative to the cringey.

We’ll end with a bit of inspiration to take us back to reality, from Jeni Thakrar, talent and Inclusion partner at Canada Life UK, who runs a voluntary initiative designed to inspire young girls, enjoys creative writing and occasionally performs stand up.

FUNNY WOMEN STAND UP TO STAND OUT WORKSHOP – 17th JULY

Lynne Parker, the founder of Funny Women, has been running her comedy workshops since 2009 and is running her first live ‘in person’ Stand Up to Stand Out workshop for over a year. This is the ideal opportunity to reclaim your comedy ‘mojo’ now that venues are opening up and a great introduction for those new to stand up.

We’ve witnessed the genesis of many comedy careers here at Funny Women through our Awards and community events. We’ve helped hundreds of women to gain the confidence to perform on stage and in the boardroom. Now that ‘performances’ will no longer be confined to virtual platforms, regaining your confidence and skills is a top priority.

This workshop covers:

  • Building the confidence to perform
  • Developing your personal style or ‘persona’
  • Introducing techniques to create new material
  • Advice on how to ‘up your game’

Here’s what past participants say:

“Thanks for a fabulous experience I had a wonderful two hours! I was also blown away by your lovely comments I really never expected anyone to think I had any talent!”

“Thank you so much for your inspiration and the confidence we gained from the workshop.”

“Thank you for hosting a fabulous session on Saturday – the turn out and commitment to everything was great and demonstrates to me how invaluable Funny Women is in showcasing and developing female led comedy.”

This is a two hour workshop and numbers are limited due to social distancing.

Join our Patreon now and take part in this workshop free of charge!

Half price for members of The Groucho Club.
