FEMALE PILOT CLUB WINTER SOCIAL DEC 7th

Female Pilot Club Networking Event on Wed 7th Dec from 7pm with ‘What we look for in a script’ chat, and also wine.

The Female Pilot Club is about to relaunch our mission to help great female-written comedy take off and fly!

After being grounded for far too long, our first live show back will be a special one-off as part of the JW3 Jewish Comedy festival in March ‘22 so to celebrate, we’re inviting you for a glass of wine and a chinwag.

Abbie and Kay will talk about what they look for in submissions and how to get your script tuned up and ready for a shot at the JW3 showcase, but if you just want to drink wine and chat, you’ll find like-minded comedy writers, producers and maybe the odd commissioner.

There’ll be some exciting news about the soon to be launched Female Pilot Club Podcast, so come on, chocks away, grab yourself a ticket and join us for the Female Pilot Club Winter Social!

Up, up and away!

Tickets – £15 with wine or soft drink

Time: 7 – pm

Location: JW3 341-351 Finchley Rd, London NW3 6ET

Testimonials from past Grand Scheme Media Introduction to Comedy Courses:

Thank you so much for today’s session with Graham and Mark. They were great. Really helpful and shed loads of knowledge and experience kindly communicated.

I found it incredibly informative and extremely helpful, so interesting to hear your insights on this side of the industry and how emerging writers can best showcase their work.

Thank you so much for an amazing session today! It was really great to have a condensed hit of your combined knowledge and experience.
Thinking about comedy in relation to other parts of the schedule is a real revelation.

Mark and Graham were so generous and comprehensive with their advice.  They blend the comedy writer’s craft knowledge – like distilling and discussing comedy devices to play with – alongside behaviours required by a comedy writer, like around script editing.

Your market insights were so useful – especially the reality check on who buyers for new talent actually are.

It was riveting.
Graham and Mark offered so many practical insights and nuggets of
professional information. The result is that I now feel better equipped to pursue my comedy career.

Thanks for the great Intro to Comedy TV session yesterday.  I found it very insightful and you gave some great tips on the industry and on writing characters and conflict and so forth. It was really motivating and encouraging and just what us new comedy writers need!

Another great course from @grand_scheme.
An absolute steal. Such a targeted, industry specific insight, it really opened my eyes to what I’m doing right, and what I need to work on.

What an amazing workshop from Mark and Graham! Such useful information which I will apply on my script 🙂 Thanks for organising.

One of the easiest recommendations I can do. I did this session recently and it was helpful, insightful and gave a broad view of UK channels from people who really know their stuff. Well worth the sign-up.

Awesome workshop this morning with @grand_scheme.
It packed so much into one course. They run lots of great workshops for writers. Check them out – thank you.

Grand Scheme Media – ONE MORE SESSION ADDED FOR THE 25th SEP

Due to popular demand, we are delighted to announce that we have added one more date to attend the 90′ online version of the INTRODUCTION TO COMEDY TV Creative Session. This will be held on September 25th at 11am and is kindly sponsored by Tiger Aspect.

RSVP to comedyfiftyfifty@itv.com by Wed 16th September

INTRODUCTION TO COMEDY TV – A 90’ online Creative Session for Comedy 50:50 female writers

How does the TV comedy industry actually work? How do you write funny stuff, but also be aware about how, and where, people are going to see it?

This 90’ online course (via Zoom) is a primer in understanding the business – what the UK channels are doing, and what they’re looking for. And what are all the new “streamers” up to? What’s the difference in writing for the BBC or Netflix…? Or C4 and Amazon?
How do you find a producer or production company to work with?
And, are all production companies the same? (they’re not…).
Graham and Mark from Grand Scheme Media will reveal all, and explain the key relationships to help writers gain a clearer insight into how telly comedy works.

UNDERSTANDING THE MARKET
A discussion about how comedy is commissioned.
What are we all watching? And how?
• The importance of scheduling, negotiation, tenacity and talent.
• The importance of understanding audiences.
• What do commissioners want? And how do you help your Producer sell your idea?
• Writing in the current market.
• Where do hits come from?

DEVISING IDEAS THAT SELL
We will discuss classic comedies of the past and present, and ask why they worked so well. Including an analysis of strong character, interpersonal relationships, setting, social context, class, familiarity, etc. But always in the context of the audience they were created for.

THE CRAFT: WRITING COMEDY: THE TEN RULES FOR WRITING COMEDY
• The importance of character
• The crucial first ten pages
• Social Context
• Serendipity
• Casting
• And so on THE BASICS How to package and sell your ideas
• Pitching – how to find your “champion”
• Writing Comedy Treatments
• Script Layout and Length
• Do’s And Don’ts
• Focus, Finesse And Finish
